Kudremukha jungle camp is located in the heart of the Kudremukha forest range. It offers some very beautiful views and some exciting activities for tourists. For starters, the jungle camp is home to a very wide variety of flora. It has many colourful plants with labels mentioning names of the specimen. The camp is very beautifully designed with winding pathways to walk. The side walks are lined with decorative wooden borders tempting you to take a walk. Tents with attached baths are available on daily rent. Hygienic, nourishing food is provided in the basic canteen maintained by the camp. There is a beautiful lake touching the camp beyond which the jungle beckons. Animals are known to frequent this lake for a drink. Seems a little scary, doesn’t it? No reason to worry. The camp is well protected by armed forest guards. Sightings of game animals is very common. Elephant herds, deer and wild cats have also been spotted. Guided trekking tours in the forest are also conducted by the Forest department. The details of the trekking routes are available with the forest officers.
A beautiful waterfall named Hanuman Gundi is worth a visit. The waterfall has been nicely maintained. A winding stair way goes down to the base of the waterfall from the forest camp. The view from the base of the waterfall is simply beautiful.
How to get there: Kudremukha jungle camp is located in the Kudremukha forest range about 60 km from Balakrishna udupi homestay. Public transport is available from Udupi to Kudremukha. Though the easiest and fastest way to get there by public transport is to take a bus from Udupi to Karkala. Next, take a bus from Karkala to Kudremukha. Both services have very good frequency and the journey takes about 2 hours one way including “wait time”. Journey by a private car is of course much more comfortable and faster. But it is also more difficult on the wallet.
